SULFUR AND SELENIUM IN CHONDRITIC METEORITES

Sulfur, selenium, sodium, and nickel in carbonaceous chondrites

All bulk samples, weighing -100 mg, were wrapped in Ni foil and introduced into the high vacuum system and heated to 120 C for at least one day. The complete release of noble gases at 1800 C for bulk samples was monitored by 2000 C reheats performed after each sample measurement. A detailed description of experimental procedures, system, background, and blank corrections is given by Loeken et al. (1992)

Modal abundances of magnetites and main sulphides as well as the observed sulphide parageneses in CK chondrites

JEOL 840A scanning electron microscope attached with a LINK An 10000 EDS analytical system. ZAF corrections were applied. Mineral analyses were also obtained with a Jeol JXA-8600 S electron microprobe operating at 15 kV and a probe current of 15 nA (University of Mtinster) and with a JEOL 733 electron microprobe operating at 15 kV with a probe current of 20 nA (University of New Mexico, Albuquerque). All microprobe data for oxides were corrected according to the method of Bence and Albee (1968) ; non-oxide data were corrected using the ZAF correction method.
