Astromat Newsletter June 2025

June 26, 2025

Dear Astromat Newsletter Subscribers,

We know that not everyone in our community can make it to Goldschmidt 2025 in Prague, especially in a year when many are navigating tight budgets and limited travel. For those who are attending, we want to make sure you're in the loop on a few key events where Astromat will be sharing updates, resources, and conversations around geochemical data and sample return science.

If you're headed to the meeting, come find us here:

🔹 Workshop: FAIR Global Databases in Geochemistry and their Applications

Sunday, 6 July | 08:30–17:00 CEST

Room 344 (3rd Floor, Prague Congress Centre)

🔹 Exhibit Booth: EarthChem & Astromat: Find, Access & Publish Geochemical Data

Sunday, 6 July | 17:00–19:00 CEST (Icebreaker Reception)

Monday–Thursday | 10:00–19:30 CEST

Booth 18 (Exhibit Hall)

🔹 Oral Presentation: Maximizing Return on Investment of Sample-Return Missions: Astromat’s Services to Ensure Long-term Access and Reusability of Astromaterials Sample Data — Kerstin A. Lehnert

Tuesday, 8 July | 11:15 CEST

South Hall 3A (3rd Floor)

🔹 Town Hall: Call to Action: Toward Resilient Databases in Geochemistry

Wednesday, 9 July | 13:00–14:00 CEST

Club A (1st Floor)

We’ll share highlights from the week afterward, so if you're not attending, you’ll still be able to catch up on what matters.

Best,

Astromat Team

Astromat Newsletter April 2025

April 4, 2025

Dear Astromat Newsletter Subscribers,

In March, Astromat released an updated version of our Astromat Synthesis Search application.

Our development team has integrated the search application into a unified repository to create a more efficient and streamlined approach. Search v4 now offers a refreshed interface, enhanced filters, instant results, and simplified exports, along with new customization options for output.

We’re hosting Webinars to demo Search v4 and provide plenty of opportunities for community Q&A. The content will be identical and offered twice with timing options for those in various time zones. Please see below for dates, times, and links for registration.

Astromat Webinar: Intro to Synthesis Search v4

Feel free to send any comments or questions to info@astromat.org. Your feedback is valuable to us as we work to continuously refine our applications and better serve the astromaterials samples community.

Best,

Astromat Team

Astromat Workshop at LPSC

March 2, 2025

If you’re heading to LPSC25, make sure to join us on Monday at 12:00PM CST for the Astromat Workshop. The two main topics will be 1) data submission to Astromat in compliance with SPD-41A, and 2) introduction to AstroSearch v4, our newly upgraded synthesis search app! Using AstroSearch v4 will make your search of the Astromat Synthesis database faster, simpler, and more transparent—helping you get to the data you need with fewer steps and greater control.

We will have snacks and drinks to keep you going (not quite lunch, but enough to keep you fueled!).

  • Astromat Workshop & Search v4 Demo
  • Date: March 10, 2025
  • Time: 12:00-1:00 PM (Central)
  • Location: Panther Creek Conference Room, Woodlands Marriott

Can’t make it to LPSC? We’ll be hosting a series of Astromat webinars in the coming months to guide you through data submission and to introduce and demo Search v4 for those who can’t attend in person. Stay tuned for details!

Coming in 2025

If you aren't attending AGU this year, we invite you to attend Astromat events planned for 2025. We will host community workshops at LPSC25 and MetSoc25 next year that will focus on training for data management and data archiving, and on guidance for the use of the Astromat synthesis. We also plan to offer repository help desk services both in conjunction with relevant in-person conferences and through a series of webinars next year. Stay tuned for the date announcements - coming soon next year.

Policy Update

Effective January 1, 2025, Astromat will no longer offer the Creative Commons Attribution - ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA) data licensing option, in accordance with NASA SMD policy and our mission to support open data practices. Select OSIRIS-REx Sample Data Now Available in Astromaterials Data Archive

Data from the initial analyses of asteroid Bennu by the OSIRIS-REx Sample Analysis Team are now available in the Astromaterials Data Archive (ADA). Approximately 100 datasets are now accessible to download out of the ~500 datasets received to date. As future OREx publications are released, the associated datasets in ADA will be made publicly accessible.

Upcoming Events Fall 2024

Our team is planning a series of webinars starting Fall 2024 on archiving your data and accessing data through Astromat. Stay tuned here for the dates and registration information. If you have suggestions or would more information on using Astromat services, please feel free to reach out to our team!
