THE GLASS ANALYSES WERE OBTAINED WITH AN AUTOMATED ARL-EMX SM ELECTRON MICROPROBE USING A POINT BEAM (SPOT DIAMETER APPROX 2-3 MICRON ) . THE FOLLOWING STANDARDS WERE USED: AUGITE (#A209) FOR Si, Ti, Fe, Mn, Mg & Ca; SYNTHETIC ANORTHITE FOR Al ( EXPECT FOR GLASSES IN THE DRILL CORE, WHEREIN A209 WAS USED). SYNTHETIC Mg-Al-RICH SPINEL FOR Cr; ORTHOCLASE (#Or-1) FOR Na AND K AND APATITE FOR P. ALL ANALYSES WERE CORRECTED FOR DIFFERENTIAL MATRIX EFFECTS FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURE OF BENCE AND ALBEE (1968) AND ALBEE AND RAY (1970)
